Building Survivor Community

4.15.2023

As much as I am a passionate and driven artist, I want to share the many interests and causes I am committed to advancing during my time here. When I am not performing, I am a team member at Time To Tell, a non-profit organization founded by Donna Jenson with the mission of sparking stories by lives affected by incest and childhood sexual abuse to be told and heard.

At Time To Tell, we host writing circles for survivors, facilitate events and readings, and build intentional communities with survivors and their loved ones who wish to heal. My commitment to this work is rooted in my own experience of CSA. I am a firm believer in the healing power of the arts and am always looking for opportunities to use my vocal and theatrical training for projects that address this important topic.

The most meaningful part of my work with Time To Tell has been acting as head co-editor of Beneath the Soil, a magazine which features artistic works from queer survivors of sexual abuse. This collection of poetry, prose, multimedia art, sculpture, song, and video reflection has created a space for queer survivors to grapple with the complexity of our intersecting identities, and to build community with those for whom heteronormative survivor spaces have historically excluded. Beneath the Soil vol. ii was released in April 2023 and is available for purchase or for online viewing here.

In addition to my work with Time To Tell, I currently act as a consultant for Braver Collective, an upcoming digital platform which provides services and supports for survivors in young adulthood.
